Her full name is Olanrewaju Adesina Hassan, although she is more commonly known as Lanre Hassan or Iya Awero.
She is a well-known and award-winning Nigerian actress and entertainer. On October 3, 1950, she was born into a polygamous family. She was born on Lagos Island (Isale-Eko), in the Nigerian state of Lagos.
Lanre Hassan was reared by Kosoko Moronfolu Okunoye, her paternal grandmother.

Her mother is from the Bankole family, while her father is from the Imaro Hassan Afoke family in Lagos State. Kosoko Moronfolu Okunoye, her paternal grandmother, reared and trained her. Her family is polygamous.
Iya Awero’s first school was Oduwabore Memorial School in Mushin. She then attended St. Peter Faaji School on Lagos Island. She attended Children Home School in Ibadan, Oyo State, due to her migration.
She returned to Lagos and completed her secondary school at Moslas High School. She gave up her education to pursue her acting career.

She began performing when she was in high school. She was fortunate to meet Wole Soyinka, the English Literature Noble Laureate. He presented her to his Drama School.
After finishing secondary school, she enrolled at the School of Drama. The program lasted only six months. Her parents oppose her acting career, but her late guardian, Olayemi Shashegbon (Mrs Berkeley), persuades her parents to allow her pursue her goals.
She met Ojo Ladipio in the Drama School (Baba Mero). She met Tawa Adamson, the mother of famed Fuji musician Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, after graduating from the School of Drama.
She, Tawa and Ojo formed a drama group named ‘Young Star Concert Party’ in 1964. In 1966, they elected Ojo Ladipo as their leader and they changed the drama group name to Ojo Ladipo Theatre Group.
In 1964, Adebayo Salami (Oga Bello) joined the drama group too. In 1978, Baba Mero died and Oga Bello was elected as the group leader.
They changed the drama group to Awada Kerikeri Theatre Group. Iya Awero and Oga Bello were so close to extent that Oga Bello’s mother was her daughter guardian. In 2018, she was featured in a movie titled Iya Loja in a crime blockbuster movie ‘ King of Boys’ directed by Nigerian Leading Female Director, Kemi Adetiba.

She became pregnant while studying at the University of Lagos’ Centre of Cultural Studies. She married Adieu Hassan Adeshina, who is currently roughly 15 years late. She has five kids.
Adieu Hassan Adeshina is Iya Awero’s husband. He passed away 15 years ago.
She has five children, however two died as a result of cold hands. One of them died while she was acting, while the other fell asleep and never awoke. She took two sons and one daughter with her.
